FREE Summer Sundays at the Colonel Palmer House
Travel back in time with each of our FREE Summer Sunday special events where our costumed presenters have plenty of displays and hands-on experiences. Each Summer Sunday is from 1-4pm on the lawn of the Colonel Palmer House. Come inside and see the historic house restored to its 1800s glory.
Sunday, June 3rd (1PM - 4PM)
"Over There: U.S. Enters the Great War"
On April 6, 1917 the United States joined its Allies in the Great War (WWI). Join us as we commemorate this sacrifice to service both at home and abroad, 100 years ago. Members of the 2nd Infantry and US Marines 47th Co. re-enactors will be present along with displays and presentations on Camp Grant, Crystal Lake service men and women, homefront efforts, WWI posters, a National War Garden and much more. An ensemble from the Crystal Lake Community Band will commemorate the day with music from the era.

"Colonel Palmer House Presents: A Country Fair"
Let’s all go to the fair! Step right up ladies and gentleman, there are animals to see and games to play, all right here at the Colonel Palmer House Country Fair. Inspired by the return of the McHenry County Fair in 1949 after 25 years, this event features a youth fair. Music will fill the grounds as members from the Crystal Lake Community Band take us back to the 1940s.

"Game On: Vintage Games and Toys"
In 2018, the Colonel Palmer House will celebrate its 160th year. Our final Summer Sunday of the season launch’s this much anticipated year of celebration. Spend the day learning games from each decade. Delight in seeing toys that were popular and may still be today. Featuring an interactive game of Civil War era baseball; enjoy reliving games and toys your ancestors enjoyed as we discover childhoods of the past.
