The Society hosts numerous one-time and annual events.
“Dearly Departed” was first held in October, 2010 to a sell-out crowd! The first year’s presentation featured Victorian mourning customs. Beginning in 2011, “Dearly Departed” featured a true story from Crystal Lake’s past. This was such a hit (another sell-out) that each year after that has featured true (but different) stories.
Cemetery Walks were held (2002-2009) at the Lake Avenue Cemetery and Union Cemetery, both located in Crystal Lake. Costumed interpreters portrayed the life and times of individuals who have shaped our community. In most cases, a video is available of this portrayal.
During the summer months, the Crystal Lake Park District and Crystal Lake Historical Society have co-hosted a monthly event called “Summer Sundays.” Each Summer Sunday has focused on various historic themes.
The purpose of the barn quilt program is not only to provide beautiful public art but to bring attention to barn preservation and restoration.
Travel back in time with our Summer Sunday special events where our costumed presenters have plenty of displays and hands-on experiences.
